J.M. Drama produces community theatre talent and entertainment with summer musical Annie Media Alert for immediate release, July 20, 2004 Kitchener - True to its charitable community theatre roots, J.M. Drama's summer production of Annie is providing an experiential educational opportunity for its 75+ cast and crew members. Elementary and high school students are working and learning alongside professionals and volunteers with decades of theatrical know-how. Together, they are presenting the classic musical Annie (book by Thomas Meehan, music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Martin Charnin) at The Registry Theatre, August 18 - 21 at 8 p.m. Tickets are available through the Centre in the Square box office at $20 for adults, $15 for students/seniors/ members, and $5 for eyeGO to the Arts members. They're selling fast. "On" and "back" stage, this is a multi-generational production. Department leads, many students themselves in KW's legendary high school productions of the 70's and 80's, are mentoring the younger cast and crew. A few company members are even from the same families. For example, Annie is Waterloo native and Grade 6 student Laura Olivia Larson. Her Dad Larry heads the show's music. Co-Directors, Cheryl Ewing and Lisa Croezen-Kauk, are mother and daughter. An active charitable community theatre group for over 21 years, J.M. Drama offers scholarships for students in the performing arts, sponsors schools interested in getting their students involved in the performing arts and produces theatrical productions for practical "behind-the-scenes" training as well as audience entertainment. Currently, J.M. Drama is concentrating its charitable efforts by operating The Registry Theatre.
