Snoopy!!! brings Schulz's Peanuts gang to life Kitchener - J.M. Drama built its reputation as an outstanding community theatre organization on presenting musicals. This summer it returns to its roots presenting Snoopy!!! a musical-comedy based on the classic comic strip, Peanuts, by Charles M. Schulz. The show runs at The Registry Theatre, 122 Frederick St., Kitchener, August 22-25 at 7:30 p.m. with matinees on Saturday, August 25 and Sunday, August 26 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $10 for children and students and may be purchased at the Centre in the Square Box office or by calling 578-1570 or 1-800-265-8977. Some tickets are also available to students through eyeGO to the Arts. Snoopy!!! has been lovingly crafted by Director John Canhoto, an unabashed, life-long Peanuts fan. "I wanted this production to be a tribute to the life of Charles M. Schulz," declared Canhoto. "It's important to me that it brings the strip alive while maintaining the integrity of the material. I think we have created a show with the energy, laughs and warmth that I associate with Peanuts." Michelle Bergauer contributes her special talents to provide both the musical direction and choreography. Snoopy!!! is ripped straight out of the comic pages. It is a collection of vignettes and songs most of which are based upon all-time favourite Peanuts strips such as the song "Clouds" which has the gang seeing all sort of wonderful scenes in the sky. Another favourite is Snoopy's attempt to become a famous author. As with the strip itself, Snoopy!!! has a broad appeal. While children may enjoy seeing comic characters come to life many of Schulz's wry observations on life are best enjoyed from an adult perspective. Some space has been provided for children who wish to be Cushion Creatures and sit close to the Peanuts gang. The play is presented at Kitchener's newest community theatre, The Registry Theatre. J.M. Drama spearheaded the creation of this venue that is used by a variety of community groups. - 30 - For more information, to arrange an interview with John Canhoto, or meet the cast, contact James Howe 519-578-3666.
